Apple Confirms New Mac Pro Update in 2013, But Not iMac

Earlier, we posted a report about Apple’s desktop Macs describing that Apple is planning to release new redesigned and improved models of its Macs likely in 2013. Majority of techies supposed that it applies both on Mac Pro and iMacs, but nobody was sure about the exact details. Moreover, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook has also told an Apple fan that they can expect significant updates next year through his email message. Today, a report by Forbes citing Apple’s spokesperson also pointed out that both Mac Pro and iMac will be upgraded next year.

Apple Mac Pro

An Apple spokesman just told me that new models and new designs of the Mac Pro, as well as the iMac desktop, are in the works and will likely be released in 2013. That confirms what New York Times columnist David Pogue said yesterday, citing an unnamed Apple executive, about Apple’s commitment to its desktop computers.

But then the site updated its report and noted that the company will release only the Mac Pro update next year without mentioning about the update of iMac device as per an email from Tim Cook.

Franz,

Thanks for your email. Our Pro customers like you are really important to us. Although we didn’t have a chance to talk about a new Mac Pro at today’s event, don’t worry as we’re working on something really great for later next year. We also updated the current model today.

We’ve been continuing to update Final Cut Pro X with revolutionary pro features like industry leading multi-cam support and we just updated Aperture with incredible new image adjustment features.

We also announced a MacBook Pro with a Retina Display that is a great solution for many pros.

Tim

It means either the iMac update will come by the end of this year or Apple has no plan to upgrade iMac at present. Notably, last iMac update was pushed by Apple 406 days ago, which is radically longer time span than the traditional iMac update interval.

At WWDC 2012 keynote, Apple Mac Pro users were absolutely disappointed when they heard that company had introduced only minor updates to its professional workstation.

We think, the Mac Pro fans shouldn’t purchase the slightly updated Mac Pro 2012 model, instead, they should wait until next year when a fully redesigned and entirely improved model of Mac Pro will be launched as promised by apple itself.
