Apple to Introduce Quad-Core (A6) Powered iPhone 5 & iPad 3: iOS 5.1 Beta Hints!
A new post from 9to5mac just reveals; Apple could soon introduce Quad-core powered iOS devices as the new iOS 5.1 Beta contains some hints for Quad-core processors. Actually, the new iOS 5.1 Beta contains “/cores/core.3” which hints the presence of a 3rd core. It should be also noted here that normally for single-core iOS devices, the iOS .IPSW file contains “/cores/core.1”.

We cannot conclude that due to iOS 5.1 including quad-core processor references, Apple’s next-generation iPad and iPhone will include a quad-core chip, but it seems reasonable based on Apple starting with a single core chip in 2010 and moving to dual-core in 2011. A quad-core chip in 2012 would fit the pattern. On the technical side, Apple is already rumored to be working on a quad-core “A6″ processor, and such processors were said to be ready in 2012.
Notably, quad-core A6 processor would quite enough to boost the performance of iPhone 5 and iPad 3 devices. Also, it would helpful for powering next generation iPad 3 with a Retina Display.
With this quad core A6 processor, the gaming would become an absolute treat for game lovers while it would also help in seamless system navigation and more powerful applications too.
Here’re the screenshots for comparing iOS core management software between pre-iOS 5.1 beta and iOS 5.1 beta. You can clearly see that dual-core A5 chip is labeled as “core.1″; but, the new chip is marked with “core.3″.
