Apple Maps are Five Times More Data Efficient than Google Maps: New Study
Though Apple Maps are the most criticized and buggy feature of iOS 6 and Apple is still experiencing many poking comments yet a new study reveals that Apple Maps are five times more data efficient than Google Maps those were kicked out by Apple for quenching their thrust of enmity. This amazing study has been conducted by Onavo which is the first and only positive comment so far we heard about Apple’s own mapping solution in company’s latest iOS 6 version.
Our data experts performed an identical series of activities on Google Maps and Apple Maps that included searching for several US cities, addresses and airports and zooming in and out to locate specific locations. On Google Maps, the average data loaded from the cellular network for each step was 1.3MB. Apple Maps came in at 271KB – that’s approximately 80% less data! On some actions, such as zooming in to see a particular intersection, Apple Maps’ efficiency advantage edged close to 7X.
The site also claims that Apple Maps are more efficient even in Satellite View, as they use only half as much data as Google Maps. Moreover, a single page load used 428KB of data with Apple Maps while a single page load on Google Maps used 930KB of data…just showing that Apple Maps are superior than Google Maps.
If the study revealed is 100% accurate, it seems that after fixing mapping issues Apple Maps will be quite finer than Google mapping solution.
