Apple Pays Compensation for Copying Swiss Railway Clock Design: iOS 6’s iPad Clock App

Apple’s latest iOS 6’s clock app for iPad has a very attractive and remarkable design which was appreciated by everyone who used that clock. But, last month, the officials of Swiss Federal Railways service claimed that Apple had copied their iconic station clock design for its iPad’s clock app and they were going to claim compensation on this move by Apple. Now The Verge reports that Apple has finally agreed to pay the said compensation to SSB and has signed a licensing agreement with the company to continue using the design according to the SSB press release.

For the use of the SBB station clock on devices like iPad and iPhone, the Swiss Federal Railways SBB and Apple have agreed and signed a license agreement.

The terms and conditions of this licensing agreement between SSB and Apple are not disclosed at present.

Notably, the SSB station design was created by famous designer Hans Hilfiker for watchmaker Mondaine and SSB has the legal rights of using it for their station clocks.

Does Apple really copies the iconic designs and features from others? The SSB Clock Design Case suggests a big ‘Yeah’ on it.
