Bill Gates Making a Dramatic Comeback as Microsoft’s CEO?
Bill Gates, founder and Chairman of Redmond-based software giant Microsoft, is going to make a dramatic comeback as the company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), if investor rumors are to be taken on board.

Gates’ name was once equal with everything Silicon Valley could consider– prosperity, authority and triumph. Since 2000, Steve Ballmer, Gates’ college fellow and employee of the company since 1980, is the company’s show boy, but company’s governing body feels his incompetence in most of departments and his ability for running Microsoft as a world giant software producer is always a big question mark in the investor’s eyes.
It’s entirely not the first time Gates’ has been suggested to make a comeback. Earlier this year, David Einhorn, futuristic investor of Greenlight Capital publicly blamed Ballmer, resembling him to “a weight dragging down the company’s share price”, which created a big gossip on Ballmer’s position as Microsoft’s CEO.
Gates intentionally put the Microsoft at an arm length by dedicating himself for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and he looks ever happier in his new mission by keeping him away from the world’s biggest software company.
Interesting enough, the main issue which hurts the company’s investor most is the Microsoft’s stocks value in the market which has been continuously remained under pressure throughout the Ballmer’s supremacy.
When Bill Gates left the company as CEO back in 1999 – Microsoft’s was performing at its peak as its stock were at $60 per share at that time. The following year, shares declined to $10 to $50, and never gain stability till now.
“There’s a lot of frustration among investors with Steve Ballmer,” added Ed Maguire of CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets. “Some is merited, some may not be. But there’s certainly a perception that Ballmer is responsible for the under-performance of the stock.”
Bill Gates is still company’s chairman on papers but in actual he didn’t work even for a single day at Microsoft for over three years, showing no interest practically in company’s matters. Now the number of fingers pointing to Ballmer’s weaknesses and incompetency have been increased and nothing might be predicted except a “most Likely” type situation over this issue.
Investors would make a sigh of relief if Gates makes this dramatic comeback to the company as a CEO, after all, the return of the founder would certainly heighten their morale and the company might get the previous splendid pace and momentum.
