Facebook Creates Anxiety, Depression, and Other Physiological Disorders in Teens! American Psychological Association

Facebook Drug

Though Facebook is today’s most popular social network, but there are some baddies also associated with it. The results of a new scientific study published today suggest; the teens who are addicted to Facebook Drug are at risk of catching a wide variety of physiological disorders including anxiety, sleeplessness, and depression etc.

Actually, the Study is in the form of a presentation that has been delivered at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association which reveals; besides multiple benefits of social media, teenagers who are a regular user of these social networking sites finally absorb a wide range of negative habits, tendencies and characteristics.

Dr. Larry Rosen, Professor of Psychology at California State University, has delivered this presentation that was titled Poke Me: How Social Networks Can both Help and Harm Our Kids.

The most noteworthy negative effects created by Facebook and alike social networks are highlighted as; the development of narcissism, antisocial behaviors and aggressive tendencies, increased absence from academic institutions due to stomach aches, Sleeplessness, anxiety and depression. These all negative effects, of course, only harm those teenagers who are habitual of excessive use of Facebook.

The study also reveals that these addictives of Facebook drug bear a very strange behavior and some of those check their Facebook page after every 15 minutes or so. Morover, these Facebook junkies also earn net lower grades from middle/high school and have overall lower retention.

Facebook Effects on Studies

Not only have the negative effects, the study also highlighted solid positive effects of being a regular on Facebook. Positive effects of Facebook include increased understanding for their online friends, helping reserved teens socialize and lastly, provide tools for teaching in influential ways to keep students busy.

We think that parents should be remained in touch with the activities of their kids on the internet; especially they should monitor their activities on social networks. If they observe any disorder they should communicate with their children over this seemingly serious matter to prevent them from anxiety attacks and depression. Using monitoring softwares or blocking sites for children’s isn’t recommended either, as finding flaws is quite easy for the teenagers of our age who born in already computer crazy world.

Facebook, no doubt, is a superb tool for socializing and mingling up with friends; however we should not neglect some of its extreme adverse effects. The most prominent issue is the fact that Facebook and alike social sites are a great time-suckers. If your kids don’t use these sites with a controlled and managed way, they would obviously lose a lot of their precious time and their academic results would prove a “shame” for you, as a result.
