Get XBMC for your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 2G

XBMC is a popular media center which was initially designed for the first Xbox, and is present there on App Store since 2008. XBMC has been widely used for Mac OS X and Apple TV since it release. Now XBMC is available for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV 2G with all its handy features and utilities. If you become a client of XBMC media center on these devices, it lets you to enjoy fully fledged features which are available for Windows, Linux or Mac rather than simply viewing streams. It has been reported by TUAW with the reference of their talk with Scott Davilla, one of the XBMC developers, that they started their work to design XBMC for Apple TV 2G on 1^st Nov. 2010 while the development for bringing XBMC for iPhone and iPad was carried out a few weeks later. He further added that currently the built-in Web server feature is disabled with a Non-optimized skin; however, they are making their best to bring improvements by including some more features in XBMC especially AirPlay feature for Apple’s iOS devices.

The discovery of an API named VideoToolBox is one of the most interesting and prominent feature of the XBMC media center which lets you to do hardware video decoding, encoding and video size scaling for matching the final display size. This API is so much commanding that it allowed the developers to launch XBMC for iPad quite enable to stream high quality HD videos (1080p) without any trans-coding to iPad. Also, the video plays perfectly while a few frames are dropped only. However, Davilla is quite hopefull that an A4 processor can boost up the video streaming playing at 1080p without any buffering.
