iOS 6 3D Maps with Flyover Hacked on Jailbroken iPhone 4 [Video]
We have earlier published a post on which iOS 6 feature runs on which iOS device; reporting also that some of the significant features of iOS 6 like Apple’s new 3D mapping features including Flyover and turn-by-turn navigation are not officially supported on the iPhone 4, while the iPhone 3GS supports only a few features of iOS 6.
But now SlashGear reports that a guy at Russian site igiudes has successfully managed to hack and run iOS 6 3D Maps and Flyover on his jailbroken iPhone 4. The guy has also posted a video and a complete guide on how to hack iOS 6 3D Maps and Flyover features to run on your iPhone 4, though the guide is actually complex in nature and only the folks who are well versed with hacking and jailbreaking procedures can follow it.
Traditionally, Apple always puts restrictions on some new striking features of its latest iOS firmware for older devices, based on their functionality and working conditions on older iOS devices. Moreover, some of iOS features are exclusively specific for latest iOS devices like Siri on iPhone 4S, for marketing benefits and other competitive factors. Similarly, Apple thinks that 3D Maps can’t be run seamlessly on pre-A5 devices like iPhone 4 that’s why the company decided to not to offer this feature officially on that hardware.
But, besides Apple’s restrictions on new features of iOS 6 for older devices, iPhone developers and hackers are continuously working on discovering the best and easiest way to hack iOS 6’s exclusive features to run on iPhone 4 and older devices and this one is one of the best efforts so far in this regard.
Hopefully, we will soon receive the jailbreak apps and tools to hack more iOS 6 features like Turn by Turn Navigation for running on iPhone 4 and even for iPhone 3GS.
