iPad Mini Pricing: Phil Schiller Defends iPad mini Pricing Starting at $329

Apple’s fans and tablet lovers were expecting a smaller sized tablet ‘iPad mini’ from the company with a reasonable price tag something around $249 to $299, but iPad mini pricing starting at $329 disappointed them all. Their expectations were based on the news describing Apple efforts to compete its rivals in low end users’ tablet market in which a 7 inch Android tablet has a price tag of only $199. It seems Apple again decided to not to compromise on technical specs and features of  iPad mini for introducing to at affordable low price.

While a majority of the Applers is crying against iPad mini pricing, Apple’s Marketing Chief Phil Schiller efficiently comes to the front to defend iPad mini pricing.  He defends the price tag of 7.9 inch iPad mini starting at $329 by comparing it to the pricing of a full sized iPad starting at $399.

“The iPad is far and away the most successful product in its category. The most affordable product we’ve made so far was $399 and people were choosing that over those devices,” Schiller said.

“And now you can get a device that’s even more affordable at $329 in this great new form, and I think a lot of customers are going to be very excited about that,” Schiller said.

It is a fact that many Apple competitors in tablet market are selling their smaller sized 7 inch tablets at cost, even some say at loss; Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Samsung Nexus 7 can be presented as examples in this regard. Apple, however, adopts a very different approach by focusing on the hardware of the iPad mini as its prime profit generator, making it difficult to match competitors on price.

We hope that Apple can revise iPad mini pricing in near future if its new tablet fails to bring expected profits for the company i.e. if its sales not touches the fixed minimum level set by the company.
