iPhone 5’s Bill of Materials (BOM) Hits $167.50

Here’s another interesting info about Apple’s new iPhone 5 which provides the BOM (Bill of Materials) of an iPhone 5; According to UBM Tech Analyst a16GB iPhone 5 that will be sold for $199 with a two-year contract and $649 without a contract contains materials of about $167.50.

The site has made a breakdown of the components used in making of an iPhone 5 unit with their industrial cost and estimated that  as a whole  an iPhone 5’s BOM hits to $167.50 for the 16 GB model. Just for comparison, the 16 GB models of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 have BOMs of $132.50 and $112, respectively.

Now if you look into the most expansive component of new iPhone 5, you will find that its A6 processor is the most expansive one which costs at $28. Next to the processor, 4G LTE modem from Qualcomm costs at $25. Third major costly components are its larger display which comes for $18 as compared to $15 for previous models.

The site also warns that these figures shouldn’t been taken as exact ones since the iPhone 5 hasn’t been analyzed. Apple is selling the new iPhone 5 vigorously through online pre-orders; while the device will hit store shelves on Sept. 21. According to the analysis of Tech Analyst, Apple will make as much as $36.2 billion on the iPhone 5 by the end of this year.
