iPhone Coming to U.S. Prepaid Mobile Carrier Cricket on June 22 with No Contract

Cricket is a well reputed prepaid U.S. regional mobile carrier with a massive base of more than 6 million users. Now the company proudly announces that iPhone is coming to their communication system on June 22. With this move, Cricket will become the first U.S. carrier to offer iPhone on a prepaid basis with no contract. People will be able to become the subscriber of Cricket for iPhone by paying $55 per month charges with unlimited voice and SMS services. The company will also offer “unlimited” data plan with 2.3 GB capacity after which speeds will be automatically throttled.
Amusingly, Cricket is also offering a partial subsidy on the iPhone hardware, with the iPhone 4 priced at $399.99 and the 16 GB iPhone 4S priced at $499.99. These big discounts of $150 off compared to Apple’s standard pricing for unlocked iPhones will be available even though users are not willing to sign service contracts.
The iPhone will be offered in the company’s current marketing hubs covering over 60 million people. You can check the full list of iPhone markets from carrier’s official iPhone site.
Notably, Cricket’s offering of iPhone is the result of its 3 years deal with Apple which binds the company to purchase at least $900 million worth of iPhone sets over that time span. The carrier also wants to carry new iPhone units as it becomes available, though company’s senior officials were reluctant to directly disclose whether Cricket would be able to offer new iPhone at the same time just like other U.S. carriers.
Cricket is famous as one of the best half dozen “super-regional” carriers in the United States, with just under 6.2 million active customers as of the end of the Q1 2012. The carrier offers a countrywide communication system through roaming contracts and its prepaid model offers simplest pricing with no activation fees or overage charges.
