Today, iPhone Dev-Team has updated Redsn0w which brings a full support for Apple’s latest iOS 6 (for both Windows & Mac) on select devices along with the ability of re-restoring and downgrading of select devices from iOS 6 to an older firmware, or in case of re-restoring, from iOS 5.x to iOS 5.x. with the latest Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 you can jailbreak iOS 6 tethered on A4 based devices with official version of Cydia right now.
The most notable aspect of this major Redsn0w update from iPhone Dev Team is its ability to not only jailbreak for devices having an A4 processor (or below),: the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the 4th-gen iPod touch. A5-based iOS devices including (iPhone 4S, iPad 2), (iPad 3- A5X) and (iPhone 5- A6) are not supported with this latest version of Redsn0w. Moreover, Hacktivation + baseband preservation support has also been added for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
The latest Redsn0w update also has the potential to recognize the firmware already installed on your device downloads the required files and proceeds with the jailbreak without any mess as Cydia now has been included as part of this Redsn0w’s release.
Here’s the easy guide on how to jailbreak iOS 6 tethered with Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 with official Cydia.
As you know it is a tethered iOS 6 jailbreak, so you will have to boot your device in a tethered mode every time the device is turned off and back on. Booting in tethered mode is so simple, and can be attained using Redsn0w: just click on the “Extras” from the main screen and then simply click on “Just Boot” option. Follow the on-screen instructions. Once done, you will be rebooted back into tethered-jailbreak mode.
1. Obviously, first of all download Redsn0w 0.9.15b1 (Windows | Mac).
2. Now download iOS 6, and update your A4 based device to it.
3. Start Redsn0w. Windows users should run it in Administrator mode while OS X Mountain Lion users need to start it by Ctrl-Click on the Redsn0w icon and then selecting Open from the new menu.
4. Click on Jailbreak, select Cydia and enter DFU mode when Redsn0w prompts you to with the help of onscreen instructions. Once the device is in DFU mode, Redsn0w will start jailbreaking the device using limera1n exploit. When done, select “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode” option to enter tethered mode for the time being.
Within a few minutes, the device will reboot with familiar Cydia icon on the home screen.
