Backup Plan “Redsn0w0.9.7” has just been released by iPhone Dev-Team which is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. The new jailbreak software Redsn0w 0.9.7 allows to jailbreak iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G on iOS 4.2.1 (untethered). The most prominent feature of the latest jailbreak app Redsn0w 0.9.7 is, “There is no need to restore or rejailbreak your iOS device”.
Before starting the jailbreak procedure with Backup Plan;
- You should have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 4.2.1
- Your devices should have SHSH blobs saved for iOS 4.2 Beta 3.
- There should be a Mac OS X with you.
- You should have full Access to iOS 4.2 Beta 3 firmware file.
Note Please!
If you rely on UltraSn0w carrier Unlock, STRICKTLY STAY AWAY FROM REDSN0W 0.9.7!
Official Warning from iPhone Dev-Team;
This is a beta tester program. It’s not a general release! Things can go very wrong, so please don’t even consider testing if you have pictures or other media on your device that you haven’t backed up!
For the same reason, please don’t participate if you rely on the ultrasn0w carrier unlock. Wait for the final version!
Until we fix some sandbox issues with bluetooth, the bluetooth functionality is disabled.
Final Note Please!
Skip to Step 2 if you have previously jailbroken (tethered) your iOS device on iOS 4.2.1 with Redsn0w. All the required direct download links are given at the end of tutorial.
Step-1:
Firstly you have to restore your iOS device to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware and jailbreak it using Redsn0w.
Step-2:
This untethered jailbreak version of Redsn0w 0.9.7(Back Plan) entirely based on SHSH blobs saved for 4.2b3 (iOS 4.2 Beta 3). For checking whether you have SHSH blobs saved for iOS 4.2 Beta 3, please go to Cydia and wait for some time. If you have “SHSH: 4.2b3” on the top of the screen as shown in the screenshot below, go ahead.
Step-3:
Now download Redsn0w 0.9.7 version and connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Mac.
Step-4:
Download usbmuxd from here and extract it on your PC. Then start Terminal inpython-client directory. If done, run the following commands;
chmod +x tcprelay.py
./tcprelay.py -t 22:2222
Step-5:
Now start Redsn0w o.9.7 and point it to the official iOS 4.2.1 firmware file.
Step-6:
Then click “Next” and select “Jailbreak Monte” option, after choosing iOS 4.2 Beta 3 firmware file.
Step-7:
Ensure that your tablet is OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer at the same time before you click “Next”.
Now the critical stage of the jailbreak procedure comes across you!
Rapidly hold “Power” button and “Home” button all together. After a few seconds release “Power” button swiftly but keep holding “Home” button yet. As the installation begins, release it too.
Step-8: You have done your job. The next job will be carried out by Redsn0w 0.9.7 (Backup Plan) itself. If your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch restarts automatically, it is the alert for you that your device has now fully jailbroken (untethered) on the current iOS 4.2.1 firmware.
